I’m a PTSA member….. Now What?
Wondering what to do now? This is a simple breakdown of how the PTSA works and how
you can make a difference for the children in our community.
What does the PTSA actually do?
· PTSA promotes the education and well-being of children and strives to be
a valuable resource for families and communities.
· We use our funds to create programs and events to meet the above goals.
What is the monthly PTSA meeting all about? When are they held?
· Every month we have meetings to discuss important issues, coordinate or evaluate events, and
conduct any other business.
· PTSA meetings generally held the 1st Thursday of every month in the school library at 5:30pm.
The meeting usually lasts 1 hour.
· PTSA meetings are conducted with an agenda by a board member (President, VP, etc). There will be times when a “motion” is made.
For example, “I make a motion that Nob Hill PTA spend $300 to help the library stock more books.”
Discussion will follow and then it is time to vote. Members simply say “yay” for yes or “nay” for no.
· If you have an item/point of interest to be added to the agenda, please email our executive committee at
nobhillpta@hotmail.com. Please keep in mind that suggested agenda items need to be in line with the goals of our PTSA.
Do I help with every PTSA program or event?
· You decide if and when you have the time to help. Without volunteers, PTSA events would not be possible. Members may call or email you with opportunities. Please consider helping out any way you can. Students love to see their parents and guardians at school!
· What does a “chair-person” do? If you volunteer to “chair” an activity, essentially you are the coordinator. You will be given a clear list of instructions and ideas on how to “do the job”. Your fellow PTSA members will be by your side through the entire process.
Don’t miss out on a chance to do something great just because it’s new to you. GIVE IT A GO!
· Option for “free-ride” membership: You’ve chosen a membership that is a “free ride” with no calls or
emails asking you to help with ANYTHING. We appreciate your membership!
I work during the day but I’d love to help out somehow. What can I do?
· We have several opportunities that could work for whenever it is convenient for you.
Email the executive committee at nobhillpta@hotmail.com for more information.
